Science Festival Etiquette a Guide to Proper Scientific Behavior

To first timers, science festivals can be loads of fun, for both enthusiasts and the plain curious alike. Festival veterans probably already know that though such an event may call for etiquette, it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone acts like robots running on chivalry programming.

Typical science festival etiquette actually holds no difference over obvious mannerism. Common sense will usually get you by just fine.
The following are some simple to follow rules for both the contenders and audiences:

Attendees:

1. Though many exhibits can look exciting, eager hands aren’t always welcomed. Check for any “Do Not Touch” signs before venturing forth.

2. Be polite to even the slowest. Avoid assaulting lagers with shoves or shouts simply move on to another exhibit.

3. Likewise, save yourself the troubles of cranky onlookers and do not hog the exhibits either.

4. Younger children sometimes discover such events possible of growing dull. Keep watch over those youngsters keen on playing with experiments.

5. Photography may be prohibited around certain exhibits. Again, scan for signs or simply open up and ask for approval.

Contenders:

1. Keep both eyes on a watch. Showing up half an hour later for a scheduled presentation can be rather awkward.

2. Stay with your exhibit; avoid straying or “blending in” with the crowds.

3. It always helps to act the part of a good sport. Resume unfinished disputes AFTER the festival.

4. Nod respectively and keep quiet while other contenders are presenting – whether you listen or not is up to you.

5. Use your inner voice. When exhibitions go wrong, avoid outbursts of laughter.
