What causes Shyness Shy

Shyness is caused by a plethora of internal and external factors. It is difficult to pinpoint what the exact cause of shyness is though. It depends on the individual and how they respond to stress.

Shyness is a psychological illness characterized by a fear of social interaction. The symptoms of such an illness are sweaty palms, lack of direct eye contact, evasion of interpersonal contact and subtle isolation. Depending on the person suffering from shyness, they symptoms could be mild to severe.

Psychological trauma

When a person suffers from some form of psychological trauma this can bring on shyness at an early age. For example, when a person is damaged mentally or emotionally, they may withdraw. Shyness may be used as a defense mechanism to avoid the chance of coming in contact with people. People who are shy are often misunderstood. From the outside looking, some people look at them as being strange or aloof. In reality, they are more aware of their surroundings than others might be. This comes from their anxiety. Shy people feel they are being scrutinized at all times. This all comes from how their mind works.

Low self esteem

A person with low self esteem may develop shyness over the years. When a person is shy, they usually have a poor self image of who they really are. In their mind, they believe they are not good enough to be friends with. They may look at themselves as an outcast or worse. People will extremely poor self esteem tend to see themselves as unlikable in a sense. This is sad when the truth is the opposite.

Emotional abuse

When a person suffers from emotional abuse this can perpetuate shyness. For example, a person may be told they are no good by their mother and father over and over again. This constant abuse can reek havoc on a person’s mental and emotional well-being. For many shy sufferers this causes them to become withdrawn and isolated. They do not have a desire to be with people because they fear the people will tell them the same thing they’ve been told by their family members.

Shyness is an illness that is often misunderstood my many. The causes can range from poor upbringing to hormonal imbalance. The important fact to keep in mind is that the sooner a person seeks help, the better of they will be. This will help them live a better life and in the end be better to the people around them. This is the greatest gift a person to give to another. That gift is a better you.
