Why a Human being needs Solitude

The need for solitude is one of the things that makes us human. Solitude is a time to enjoy your own sense of self. Seek time for solitude with expectation and gratitude. This time is important for you to find your center and restore your spirits. People need solitude to find their center and to better deal with the stresses of the human existence.

Some people avoid time alone because they are uncomfortable in that state. These people may experience boredom or even fear at the prospect of being by themselves. Rather than enjoying a time of solitude, they feel discomfort and even misery.People who cannot feel happiness alone often do not understand the beauty of solitude. It is a state of mind and location that is worth seeking, even if it takes time and effort to achieve.

Those who find solitude have a sense of peace and contentment wash over them when they enjoy an activity by themselves. Solitude can be spent reading, writing, walking, cooking, or any activity that is renewing when experienced alone. It can be a time of personal growth and contribute to well-being.

May Sarton said, “Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is the richness of self.” In solitude, many people re-create themselves or at least re-connect with that sense of self.

May Sarton makes it sound as if you can wipe out loneliness if you build a sense of self. It is so important to take comfort in the company of one’s self. After all, we very often have to be the very one to cheer ourselves, congratulate ourselves, or know what it will take to ease the pain of loss.

Solitude is an essential time that must be carved out of each day or at least every few days. It is a type of nourishment that is necessary to keep one’s soul or spirit alive.

The interesting thing about solitude is that it doesn’t have to be experienced in some secluded, out-of-the-way place. Solitude may be enjoyed in a quiet area of a library, in church, or parked under a century-old tree. It can be found in a walk around the block or in reading a poem or thought-for-the-day. Recognize your need for solitude, even if it is for just a few minutes a day. See how even a short time to reflect and to be restored can make a huge difference in your life.
