What is Validation

Throughout life people have always desired validation. It is an element of life that is inescapable. No matter how confident a person is the need to be heard is there. This desire is often demonstrated on television and media. People seek out friends and relatives when making a major decision. They ask” What do you think about the idea of me starting a new business?” or ” Do you think it’s a good time for me to get married?” Having a person say “yes” or”no” usually makes the difference between a person moving forward and not.

The definition of validation is to reinforce or confirm the openness or validity of something. For example, you decide major in Business Management. You ask your mother and father what they think and if they believe it is the right choice. Once they say yes or no, they have validated your decision. That is basically what validation is. It is making something concrete.

Validation is used most in business settings. An employee may have an idea about something and seek validation from his or her superior to get the “go” on the idea. This is what usually takes place. Before a person can get the idea on paper, it must go through a process. This is another form of confirmation. Once the idea is brought to the attention of the bosses, it must be evaluated. This takes time but once it is done the idea is able to come to fruition.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. It feels better when someone agrees with what we are doing. Even if 100 people do not agree with something, we look for the one that does. That is what makes a difference to us. One yes is more powerful than a whole bunch of no’s any day. Some people will search for many years for that confirmation.

This happened to me as well. I was thinking about going on a business trip and didn’t think it was the right time. I had so many doubts. However, she convinced me to go. She said ” Girl, just do it, make it happen.” ” You should really go.” So all of a sudden I had a change of mind. I put my money together and made a way to go to the trip. To this day, I can tell you that was the best decision I’ve ever made. I had loads of fun and learned many helpful marketing techniques.

Validation will forever be a part of the landscape of life. As long as there is a person seeking a purpose and someone on the other end , it will exist.
