In general, no one has really agreed on why we dream or where dreams come from. It remains a mystery in which many cultures say are directions from higher powers. Though dreams can reveal ideas in which can be interpreted supernaturally and for higher understanding, it is the stance of this article that dreams are just a result of a human’s already imaginative mind.

A person probably has several day dreams while completely awake during the day. Many come out of paranoid preconceptions or fantasies. Let’s say you are drinking coffee at Starbucks and you see someone that you are attracted to. You look down and envision in your mind for a short moment that they walk over smiling to join you. In your head you act surprised and welcome the fine lady or gentlemen to join you for coffee. When you look up again, you see that the rest of the family has come in while noticing a ring on the person’s finger. The miniature dream vanishes.

Similar trains of thought pass through when it is morning and you are out for a bike ride or jog. Lets say you see a morning straggler. Paranoid in your mind you think: what if he came over and robbed me?. You find yourself imagining that you are in this situation and you act out a plan on how to engage that type of predicament if it were to occur. Many of these are very visual in your head when you perceive the actions that you create in your head to disarm and protect yourself from danger. The process is much similar to story writing and interpretative painting.

If these dreams occur naturally during the day, it should be no mystery as to where they come from. When you are completely asleep, your senses are not nearly as active. You have no vision, no sound, no taste, no feeling, and your body is completely shut off from the outside world. But your mind, however, is still playing out all the what ifs. It mixes and matches cause and effect situations often coming up with new ones that seem completely irrelevant to your life when you awake. The difference between day time dreaming and night time dreaming is that you become very aware of what your mind is envisioning in various hypothetical situations.

So it is the fact that people are constantly envisioning things based on how they perceive the cause and effect of the world around them that creates intense night time imagery. These can be very helpful for writers and artists alike because day dreams and envisioning while trying to subdue the other senses is difficult. Dreams become extremely sensual and sometimes emotional when your mind is allowed to run without the distractions of the outside world.
