Moving Storms – Yes

When the natural instinct of any animal is to survive we have to do everything we can to make sure we do survive. Our entire international society is based on the basic rule of surviving. Everything we do technologically and mentally is so we can survive, after that the luxuries and conveniences we have been able to create for ourselves come along. If the knowledge existed so scientists could effectively divert a hurricane from a major city then we have to do it even if rural residents property is damaged.

Everything our society is set around is on the natural instinct we each have to survive. We do everything possible to ensure that we survive the worst of things. We invent new medicines and look for new ways to treat diseases and prevent death. We fight others for our right to live. We look for new ways to keep fires from our houses, we make things that alert us if dangerous people are near us. All of this is centered around the fact that we all want to survive.

Rural residents are just as important as city residents. That should go without saying. The fact is that in major cities there are more people that have to be evacuated and brought to safety. Plus our government and people themselves invest in millions if not billions into things that go into running the city, into the things we like to have. If destroyed we then have to pay back most of that money in repair and clean up. Insurance then has to pay for our properties and overall money is spent almost twice to ensure we have all those things back.

Less people live in rural areas and so there would be less people to make sure were safe from the hurricanes. We would also save on the costs to repair and reimburse for past items. The people in rural areas have just as nice of things as people in the city, but because there are less of them there is less to be payed back and less to be recovered. By moving a hurricane to a smaller city the numbers of casualties, deaths, and the costs for repair would all be lowered.

Some people believe that this could be an example of humans trying to “play God” and control our own fate. That is so far from the truth. We are simply taking things we have found ways to control and making them work in our favor. We are not choosing who lives and who dies. Just as we evacuate major cities we would evacuate the rural areas. The efforts would stay the same and because of the smaller number of people they would be more effective, which means there could be more lives saved.

By having the ability to divert hurricanes away from major cities so many things would be improved upon like the death toll due to hurricanes, and the costs of repair. There is nothing wrong with making advances in science and using them to everyones advantage.
