How to Remove Hair at Home

Overview

Hair growth on the body varies from person to person. When it is fine and light in color, it is known as vellus hair. When it is dark and coarse, it is known as terminal hair. People who feel self conscious about their body hair often visit a professional facility to seek removal. Electrolysis and laser removal are two popular treatment options. If you do not have the money for these services and you want to remove hair from home, there are several methods you can look into.

Step 1

Cut the hair down as close to the skin as possible. Use a pair of scissors or electric trimmers.

Step 2

Dissolve the hair with a depilatory. Depilatories come in creams, aerosols or lotions. Wash your skin with warm water and leave it wet. Apply the depilatory and let it set up for as long as the manufacturer specifies. Wipe the hair off with a damp washcloth. Repeat in all areas where hair removal is desired.

Step 3

Roll an epilator over your skin to pull the hair out. An epilator is a hand-held device that looks like an electric razor. Take a warm bath or shower and dry yourself off thoroughly. Tighten your skin in an area where there is hair by pressing down on it with your fingers. Run the epilator across your skin to remove the hair. Multiple hairs will be grasped and pulled out at the same time.

Step 4

Rip the hair out with the use of a home waxing kit. Heat the wax up, apply it to your skin with the applicator wand and let it set up. Flatten the cloth strip over the wax and smooth it out. Place your fingers on one hand on your skin above the cloth strip. Grab the corner of the strip with your other hand and pull it off in a fast, downward motion. Repeat in all areas that you want hair removed.

Step 5

Wash your skin with warm water and leave it moist. Lather on some shaving cream and use a new razor to remove it. Take short, smooth strokes and apply moderate pressure. Take a shower when you are finished to wash off any excess hair and shaving cream.
