If you’re planning on wearing a swimsuit soon, you need to get rid of the hair around your bikini area so you’ll look great and avoid embarrassment. Fortunately you have plenty of options to choose from, and it all depends on how much you want to spend, how long you want it to last, and how painless it needs to be. Focus on the characteristics that are most important to you to find the best way to get rid of hair from your bikini area.
Step 1
Shave it off. Shaving with a razor is inexpensive and painless. The drawback, however, is that the results last only a few days, so you’ll soon have to shave again. If you shave your bikini line, make sure to use moisturizing shaving cream and a razor with three blades and a moisturizing strip to reduce the chances of developing razor burn afterward.
Step 2
Get waxed. Waxing removes hair at the root, so you’ll stay smooth for up to four weeks. However, it is painful. You can get a professional waxing at a salon or spa, or you can wax yourself at home with a kit.
Step 3
Try epilation. Epilator devices, which can be utilized at home, use a row of tweezers to pluck hair out at the root. This hair removal treatment is slightly painful because you are pulling individual hairs out. You have to trim hair down to between 2mm and 5mm to minimize pain. Epilation keeps you smooth for up to four weeks.
Step 4
Spread on a depilatory product. Depilatory creams dissolve hair right below the skin’s surface. These products are completely painless, and the results last several days. Use a thick cream depilatory for your bikini area so that it doesn’t drip.
Step 5
Go for laser treatments. Laser treatments aren’t permanent, but they last from one to 10 years. They are fairly painful and require several trips to a dermatologist’s office or a medical spa. Laser treatments work better on light skin with dark hair or dark skin with light hair. If you have little contrast between your skin and hair, the laser will have a difficult time finding the follicle and zapping it. Until the laser treatments remove your hair, you will have to shave or use a depilatory cream to stay smooth.
Step 6
Schedule an electrolysis session. Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal treatment, so your bikini area hair will be gone forever. However, it is painful and takes a long time. The electrolysis device inserts a needle into your hair follicle and releases an electrical current to stop the growth of your hair. Electrolysis services are available at spas, but there are also electrolysis devices you can use at home to remove the hair yourself.
