How to Fade Acne Scars at Home

Overview

Acne occurs when the follicles in your skin become clogged with a type of oil known as sebum. Your sebaceous glands produce sebum, and they are especially active during adolescence. The clogged follicles can swell into pustules that may rupture and become open lesions. These lesions can cause scarring if they fail to heal properly. You can use a variety of substances at home that may help acne scars fade.

Step 1

Wash your acne scars with a mild, liquid soap to remove any traces of dirt, oil and makeup. Use a soft washcloth to gently rub the soapy water into your acne scars. Wash thoroughly with warm water and dry your skin with a clean towel.

Step 2

Use olive oil to repair acne scars. Rub a liberal amount olive oil gently into the scar tissue as often as five times a day. Olive oil is gentle to your skin and has little chance of causing adverse side effects.

Step 3

Apply vitamin E to fade acne scars and treat other skin problems. Obtain capsules that contain liquid vitamin E from a supermarket or health store. Break one of the capsules open and rub it into your skin at least once a day.

Step 4

Treat acne scars and with rosehip seed oil. Rosehip seed oil is readily available in health and beauty stores. Rub the rosehip seed oil into your acne scars twice a day to gradually fade the acne scars.

Step 5

Make a solution of lemon juice to lighten acne scars. Squeeze the juice from one lemon into a bowl and add a cup of water. Mix these ingredients together and soak a washcloth in the resulting solution. Wring out the washcloth and hold it against your acne scars for a few minutes each day. The acid in the lemon juice can lighten dark acne scars over time.
