Bad breath, it’s embarrassing and can have an effect on our life, especially if we can not get it under control. By giving some thought as to why bad breath happens and how we can go about ridding ourself of it, will be of benefit to ourselves and those who are around us. Chronic bad breath shouldn’t be the monster that prevents us from interacting freely with others.

Have you seen the commercial where a young boy is sitting on Santa’s lap and he looks up at Santa and says, “brother you have bad breath”? You might have laughed at the humor of the situation, but halitosis or “Bad Breath” is a frustration many of us experience daily.

Often, the most common reason for chronic bad breath happens due to improper oral hygiene. Some people don’t give thought to the importance of brushing their teeth. Yet there can be some medical reasons why bad breath exist. Gum disease, rotten teeth, braces or fillings which cause metal build up in the mouth. Colds and infections, smoking, and indigestion are a few others.

You might try using a few of these suggestions as a bad breath remedy. Mix one tablespoon of chlorophyll, which can be found as a supplement in alfalfa liquid, wheat grass or barley juice, in one half cup of water and use as a mouthwash. Try eating parsley after a meal. Parsley contains chlorophyll.

Take vitamin C which helps to rid the body of toxins that could cause bad breath. Vitamin C also helps to heal gum disease and aids in preventing bleeding gums, another factor in promoting bad breath.

Also give some thought to incorporating these suggestions for a bad breath cure.

1. Eat more raw foods. Raw carrots are great for combating bad breath.

2. Avoid foods and drinks which leave lingering odors in the mouth, such as spicy things, garlic, alcohol, coffee.

3. Try a cleansing diet with fresh lemon juice and water. This helps to detoxify the system. (Always consult your doctor first)

4. Brush teeth and tongue after ever meal. The tongue houses many areas for bacteria to grow, leading to bad breath.

5. Floss regularly. Flossing helps to rid your teeth of food particles that get caught in-between the teeth. If left, the particles start to rot leading to bad breath.

6. Clean toothbrush, then store in hydrogen peroxide which helps to kill germs.

7. Avoid using commercial mouthwashes. They usually contain flavoring, dye, and alcohol. While they might help to rid the bacteria causing bad breath, it usually returns in full force later.

If chronic bad breath persist, give some thought as to why. Perhaps there is an underlying health problem which needs to be addressed. Consult your physician and get a check up.
