What to take to Hospital when You’re having Surgery

Going to the hospital can be a stressful experience. When you go to the hospital for surgery, in particular, it can be even harder to deal with. One of the best things to do to make it easier for yourself is to bring with you the essentials. You want to be as comfortable as possible in an environment that can often feel stressful and foreign.

Bring books.

You will want something to read. You may not be able to focus on the material for very long, depending on how tired you are after surgery. But when you wake up and once you start getting your energy back, you are probably going to feel bored. If you don’t feel like bringing a book with you, bring something easier to focus on, such as a magazine. You can even bring things like sudoku puzzles or crosswords to entertain yourself with.

Bring comforting objects.

These types of things will range from person to person. An example would be to bring your own personal toothbrush from home. If you are a woman, bring something that smells familiar such as your favorite hand lotion. Bring an object or two that is sentimental, reminds you of home, and is comforting to you.

Bring an extra blanket.

There will be blankets and pillows from the hospital for sure. You might like to bring something of your own though in case the blankets at the hospital are too thin for your liking. An extra pillow might be another thing you could bring with you. You are not going to be able to bring a lot with you to the hospital. Usually just a small suitcase. You are also advised what not to bring just in case. Bring only the essentials with you and do not go overboard.

Bring comfortable pyjamas.

You will of course be given hospital clothes to wear. It may be necessary to wear them for a while during your hospital stay. But the second you get the chance to change into clean, soft pyjamas of your own you will feel a lot more comfortable. Have them ready just in case.

There are many things you can bring to the hospital with you. The main things you will want to focus on bringing will be objects that stave off boredom and ones that provide you with emotional and physical comfort. Recovering from surgery can be exhausting, so you will want to have these things on hand to help you get through that recovery time.
