UFO Meeting

If UFO stands for Unidentifiable Frying Objects, it is way too late to be thinking about prevention! These hamburgers are killing us!

But, well, you know, it is the Unidentified Flying objects that we refer to by the shortened “UFO.” So I quite naturally ask, if this UFO came near to us, how would you identify it? Would there be a logo of a flag from the foreign nation and planet? Also, is it possible they would know us through our TV shows, which they have received ten years after we beamed them out to America. Would they have the same type of space suits to prevent their own poisoning in outer space?

And if they landed right next to a highway, how soon would the US Air Force surround the area and seal it off? This would again raise suspicion that the Air Force was experimenting with several routes or types of space travel.

Yet, suppose we could overcome all the obstacles to meeting these foreign aliens. Would we sit down to talk first, or rise up to do battle? If they were superior to us, we could lose the first war based upon all that we know. Because what we know is fear, doom and gloom, and a common sense of dread of the unknown. We could never extend open arms to an alien creature about whom we knew little to nothing. There is no trust factor built up yet. Without having observed any craft negotiating the steep curve of the atmosphere, the Navy and Marines will have been taken by surprise that you can organize a search and rescue squad in thirty minutes. But when they f ind the alien ship and surround it, will the fate of all humanity raise their hands in abject surrender and openness. If so, they may do the same thing. Another important point is: will they have translators and interpreters allowed to stand in for the voice of the speaker in question? Will the speaker make sense, or will he speak in riddles? Will we respond, not with fear but with respect?

Learning from history, very little has usually been done to scout out an enemy before an attack. Rarely does one avoid attacking befoore trying diplomatic measures, which are already doomed to fail because certain men want it that way. Thus, war is unavoidable. So if any aliens ever show up with superior weapons, which even our nuclear forces cannot defend against, we know we can kiss it all. And then wonder if these aliens will ever be attacked from afar by a group using even more powerful forces. So rest assured. If they are superior, we will know soon enough. If we are, driving them out will not be too difficult.

But what if we are equal in might? Can we overcome it? Hopefully, a good spokesman, strong in gracious language could be sent as soon as possible. Perhaps we may find out a new way of negotiating. Leave war behind. Come up front with those of us who are winners. Our destruction would be self-assured if a superior force first attacked us, then brought out their big guns last. We should ask: How can we make contact earlier, while the people met each other and trusted their neighbors? Could this avert the war?

Let’s find a way, if necessary. Well, perhaps it is necessary now, here on earth, with our own friends that we should be making!
