Titan Life on Moon

Amazing, hard to believe, crazy, and wow, all might be some of the things coming to your mind as you read the title of this article. The very idea that life may exist outside our own in this universe in itself is enough to make the mind boggle. The existence of another intelligent creature within our very own galaxy makes us all feel less alone. For some this idea fills them with fear. For others this fills them with excitement. Others are only interested in the facts; well let’s take a look at the facts.

Nasa has built a satellite the Cassini probe this probe was launched into outer space and reached Saturn’s orbit in 2004. The Cassini probe will be one of the first to get a look at Saturn’s northern hemisphere in summer. This probe having been in orbit for now 6 years has picked up some interesting chemical combinations. The surface of Titan, Saturns moon has been found to be covered with mountains, lakes, and even rivers similar to earth. This leads some astronomers to believe the potential for life exists.

The liquid on this planet is composed of a methane base rather then hydrogen. However the combination still generates a “Water” “H20” like substance. The Cassinis results show that the hydrogen gas in the upper atmosphere is disappearing at the surface. This suggests something is consuming the Hydrogen.

Scientists believe that bugs not so unlike the bugs on earth could be breathing this Hydrogen. There is another chemical missing from the surface. Our chemistry tells us this chemical should be created by the combination of chemicals in the upper atmosphere and the sun shining through it. The fact that this chemical composition was not found on the surface suggests that this may also be being consumed by something living there.

Nasa astrobiologist Chris McKay said: ‘If these signs do turn out to be a sign of life, it would be doubly exciting because it would represent a second form of life independent from water-based life on Earth.’

Professor John Zarnecki, of the Open University, said: ‘We believe the chemistry is there for life to form. It just needs heat and warmth to kick-start the process.

‘In four billion years’ time, when the Sun swells into a red giant, it could be paradise on Titan.’

As compelling as all this potential evidence is one must ask themselves. If life exists on this planet why has it not evolved as far as we have? Perhaps it has evolved beyond our capacity and this civilization chooses to hide itself from us. Perhaps they think us not ready or too young as a species to understand them and there ways. This could be concerning to our government that these beings have the technology to be invisible to us. This would mean if they ever decided to attack we would be completely defenseless, but this is all just speculation, let’s get back to the evidence.

The combination of amonia and Methane in the upper atmosphere combined with sunlight should create the new chemical composition Acetalyne which is not found on the surface. Using new Cassini data, Clark and colleagues report that the moon’s surface is a stew of organic compounds, benzene, ethane and methane. so why wasn’t Acetalyne found? NASA  astrobiologist Chris McKay, suggested acetylene might make dandy fuel for any life living on the -290 degree surface of the moon.

So these creatures would have to breath Hydrogen and drink Methane while eating Acetalyn. On second thought these don’t sound anything like humans! Well despite our movies showing human like life in space the reality is. There are so few planets anything like earth that the accommodation of a “Human like race” Seems unreasonable. If there are other intelligent creatures out there, they don’t live anything like us. To some, that can be the scariest thing of all. What if they consume fuel as quickly as we do what if their planet runs out? Could they come to earth and remodel our planet? Make it more closely resemble there own? make our planet no longer home to the human race!?

As interesting as this all sounds my preference is to believe that these bugs are probably just that some inter-spacial organism. Much like a bug here and nothing like humans. Though it is life after all and that means there is potential for other species to be living there as well.

We all believe what we want to believe. That’s what makes us different and original so take this information and let it spin in your mind for a while, creating images of crazy alien beasts who will come attack earth or peaceful bugs who secrete candy like pheromones a new delicacy for those living here on earth. It’s up to you let your imagination loose; you know you want to.
