The Solar Power Game

You may think that the solution to the energy crisis is itself solar power and other green technologies.  But that’s not necessarily true.  The reason is simple, without the proper motivation, no one will take the initiative and purchase solar panels.   What it takes is a spark, and not just any spark, it take higher prices at your power meter.

In Los Angeles County the power companies have done the most brilliant thing ever for solar cell manufacturers and installers; they are making Californians pay for the majority of the electricity that they use.  What this is doing is causing a rift to form between the populated electric power users and the power grid suppliers that currently monopolize the power distribution and payment into California.

I think they are betting that Californians won’t switch to solar in droves because they are slowly raising the temperature so to speak on the cost of electric power.  What they aren’t telling you is that the cost per year for each watt will soon dwarf the cost of going totally solar.    And if people in California are considering about investing in solar power, it may not only make sense, it may also make you poorer if you don’t switch.

Although the average Californian isn’t going to be lured into the green zone just yet, they need a wakeup call.  So what’s going to wake him up?  There is only one way to stop the electric power companies from ruling our lives.   It takes all of us Californians to start installing solar cells and other green technologies one house at a time.

The power companies have installed these new meters because they can see writing on the wall, and they know it’s not going to be long before every Tom, Dick, and Harry have their own Solar Powered Electric plant on their roofs and every cubby hole you can imagine.

Since the price of manufacturing large panels is coming down steeply, it’s time to start moving, getting on you IP Phones, and blog spheres and do something.  And it’s up to California to take the first real major step.  Because we all know that the only other state capable is the one we are all paying higher gas prices to for our electric power which is obviously Texas.

Now if only we could compete with China in the global manufacturing of Solar Cells and green technology.  I’ll save that for another story.
