Non Religious Beliefs Related to the Spring Equinox

What is a religious belief system? A religious belief system is an organized attempt to explain the world, good and bad, through a belief in something other than the self or the natural unfolding of events. Such belief systems will rely on an outer power such as God, an ideological representation.

A non-religious belief system is a system that does not believe in any deity, however they do have belief systems. Some non-religious belief systems that are related to the spring equinox or any equinox as they are all the same regardless of the time of year, deal in moral issues on social or ethical realms. The overall theme to those without a religious belief system leans toward a “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Treat others as you would like to be treated. They depict themselves in various ways and those ways reveal that their belief system is void of any god or religious leader.

Some rather popular non-religious belief systems are agnostics, atheists, rationalists, humanists, freethinkers, secularists, skeptics, and the non-religious. In the non-religious belief dogma lie the systems own belief systems. Seems rather contradictory but remember, these belief systems differ in that they do not introduce or rely on an icon or god of any sort.

For instance, atheists reject any belief in the subsistence of God or any gods. Oftentimes, atheists simply do not believe in the soul or any afterlife, nor do they believe in religions of any sort. They believe in nothing but the life they are given, and when that life ends, nothing evolves.

Agnostics, on the other hand, do not reject God or belief in religions, but they don’t necessarily believe in them, either. They insist that there simply is no way to tell. They keep an open mind to all things supernatural but cannot bring themselves to venture one way or the other about God or religion.

Rationalists flat out consider believing in religion and God unreasonable. It makes no sense to them and really doesn’t matter, whereas, a humanist relies on living a good, moral life without the interference or belief in any religious dogma.

Now, the term equinox literally means “equal night”. What the spring equinox means is that first day of the spring equinox finds the day and the night are equally long, 12 hours apiece. Non-religious believers related to the Spring Equinox other than those above might be considered Wiccans, Heathens, and others with “pagan” beliefs that are non-religious, meaning no belief in the Christian God.

Wiccans typically idolized a Horned God that represented the male part of the religion’s theological arrangement while the Triple Goddess represented the female the Maiden Goddess, the Mother Goddess, and the Crone Goddess. Wiccans are a pagan belief system that originated in pre-Christian Europe and were duly influenced by the Spring Equinox; however, the Wicca movement is still alive and thriving today. Across the globe, there are still pagan rituals that manifest in festivals such as the annual Prometheia festival a Greek polytheistic group known as the Supreme Council of Ethnikoi Hellenes. Wicca is the largest Neopagan movement but some other pagan or Neopagan faiths include Neo-Druidism, Slavic Neopaganism and Germanic Neopaganism. The spring equinox had an effect on the rites and rituals performed by these polytheistic pagan groups as did the change of the seasons and certain holidays.

Heathens are another polytheistic pagan group influenced by the equinox that do not believe in the one Christian God, but instead believe in a multitude of gods and goddesses. In short, most religious belief systems and non-religious belief systems have some sort of system or code of belief they follow or believe in – even if the religion is the belief in not believing in religious belief systems!
