Most Dangerous Volcanoes

When volcanoes erupt, they can cause devastation for miles wide. Anything in the volcanoes path gets destroyed instantly by the hot lava. There are many dangerous volcanoes in the world, however, here are some that I feel to be some of the most dangerous in the world.

• Sakura Jima – Japan

The Sakura Jima in Japan is considered worldwide to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It is also the most active in Japan. Kagoshima city lies close by to the volcano and has a population of nearly 700 thousand people. If this volcano was to erupt, it would be devastating. The last time that Sakura Jima erupted was in March 2009, which spat out rubble for as far as 2km. Kagoshima city now has special shelters for people to escape the falling debris when the volcano erupts.

• Yellowstone super-volcano – United States

When Yellowstone super-volcano erupts, the rocks and debris can shoot up to 1000 kilometres. If this volcano erupts, it could amount to being one of the biggest disasters that the United States has ever encountered. One eruption from the Yellowstone super-volcano could very easily trigger multiple eruptions.

• Popocatepetl – Mexico

The Popocatepetl is a partly glacier covered active volcano set at 5426 metres above sea level. It had its largest eruption in its history in 2000 with a total of 15 eruptions since the year 1519. It got its name from the Aztec word meaning smoking mountain and is situated 70km south east of Mexico city.

• Galeras Volcano – Coumbia

The Galeras is the most active volcano in Columbia and has erupted every year since 2000.  For at least a million years the Galeras has been active and with the last eruption the government had to evacuate 8000 people. The Galeras summit is 4276 metres above the sea level.

• Mauna Loa Volcano – Hawaii

This is one of the five mountains that form the island of Hawaii. It is the largest volcano on our planet. The whole volcano covers half of the island of Hawaii and by itself amounts to 85% of all the other Hawaiian islands combined.

There are many dangerous volcanoes and many on which people actually live. The likes of Mount Vesuvius is known as being one of the most dangerous on the planet, so I decided to show that others could also be just as bad. What makes these even more devastating is that they can be very unpredictable.
