How to Instill Confidence in yourself

When difficult situations arise in our lives, it can cause our self esteem to plummet. It can be the result of a troubled relationship, or a divorce. It can be from being laid off, or fired from a job. It could also be from the media.

They bombard us with television and magazine advertisements, telling us we should strive to look perfect, thin and young. They Set impossible standards for us to follow. We are Often left to feel inadequate. So how can we boost our confidence?.

The first and most important thing to do would be, distance yourself from anyone who is unfairly over critical of you.

I had a relative that was always criticizing someone, and of course I wasn’t excluded. For some reason I thought that I had to associate with this person because they were a family member. Until one day when we were having a conversation on the phone. Again as usual, she was telling me that I was doing something wrong, and slamming me. When I hung up I finally realized, that whenever I spoke to this person, I ended up feeling terrible about myself. I decided then and there, not to allow anyone to ever speak to me that way again. I Eventually ended the relationship altogether.

I can not begin to tell you how much nicer my life is without those kind of people in it, and it gets better as time goes on. You will eventually be proud of yourself for taking this action. Not letting people treat you this way, while eliminating negativity from your life.

The next step would be to assess your “strong points”. Do you have something you can do better than anyone else?. It can be a hobby that you are good at. Nice manners or a pleasant personality. Learn to embrace the things you like about yourself, and remember them. If need be make a list. So you can view it on a daily basis.

Take a realistic looks at your flaws. Do not over emphasize them. When you see things about yourself that you would like to change, get organized. Instead of being upset and depressed about them, think of possible ways you can change them. Set goals for the changes, but take only one step at a time. To help insure success.

Always walk with your chin up. You will appear to be taller, slimmer and more confident. After a time, it will come natural to you. It can also help improve your self image.

Try to have a positive attitude, and never compare yourself to someone else. Always remember nobody is perfect. Besides, sometimes the things that we view as flaws, make us more approachable and lovable to other people.
