The Best Mid Level Road Bicycles

Bicycle technology has come a long way. Midlevel road bikes are great values for the money. A midlevel bicycle is one that will fit the needs of most everyone and typically share features with their higher-end race bikes cousins. These bikes feature midrange components and a mix of aluminum and carbon fiber parts. A perfect choice for the rider that is looking to upgrade from their entry level bike but not sure about spending the money on a high end racing machine.

GT GTR Sport Carbon

The GTR shares a few similarities with its higher-end cousin the GTR Race. The Sport model has a monocoque frame (one mold), a tapered steerer, press-fit bottom bracket and full carbon dropouts. GT used the performance proven, reliable Shimano 105 component group set as well as a Ritchey Logic Pro cockpit. The GTR will be a great bicycle for years to come.

Specialized Tarmac Comp Double Rival

The Tarmac Comp is in the same pedigree as the awarded Tarmac Expert. According to Bicycling Magazine, “the Tarmac Comp yields a near-perfect combination of performance and comfort.” It features an oversized, tapered steerer tube and a huge downtube that provide outstanding stiffness. Specialized outfitted the Comp with its Body Geometry parts, a Zertz vibration-dampening gel insert in the seat post and SRAM Rival components.

Pinarello FP3 Force

As with the Tarmac Comp, the FP3 Force comes from a high-end pedigree. The FP3 shares a few unique features with the Pinarello’s Grand Tour winning race bike the Prince. External stiffening ribs on the head and down tubes, asymmetric chainstays, and an Onda FPX fork that is based on the Prince’s fork. You can also mix SRAM Rival and Force components or for an additional fee select Shimano Ultegra or Campagnolo Centaur components.

BH G5 Ultegra

The G5 features BH’s top frame, Shimano Ultegra 6700, and the proven Mavic’s Ksyrium Elite wheels. Bicycle enthusiasts would describe this bike as a “thoroughbred.” The winning G5 frame features stiffness in all the right places, very lightweight (810 g for 54 cm frame) and a rider position to help you climb. The Ultegra components give the rider amazing performance for the cost. When it comes down to it, the G5 gives the rider the peace of mind that this bike is reliable, durable and is overall a winning package.
