How to Repair Thin Skin

Overview

As you age, your skin goes through many changes, such as wrinkles, age spots and thinning. The skin loses the fatty layers that protect tissue from injury, while collagen fiber production decreases. This results in thinner skin that is easily injured. Treating thin skin goes hand in hand with wrinkle and age spot treatment, covering the anti-aging desires of many people. There are steps you can take at home to help thicken skin and keep it from damaging further.

Step 1

Apply a moisturizing cream containing vitamins A, C, E and betacarotene. These vitamins are natural antioxidants that slow down and help reverse damage to the skin caused by aging. Alpha hydroxy acid-based facial products are also beneficial in helping regain skin thickness, as well as reducing wrinkle appearance.

Step 2

Apply a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher when going outdoors. Preventing further skin damage from the sun’s UV rays will help skin thicken naturally by minimizing damaging effects. Sunscreen also helps the skin retain moisture, which is essential for skin health and protection against injury.

Step 3

Drink eight to 10 glasses of water per day. This will flush out damaging toxins and promote skin healing and skin cell regeneration needed to thicken thinning skin. Drinking plenty of water also helps keep skin properly moisturized from the inside out.

Step 4

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are ideal sources of antioxidants and other essential vitamins and nutrients required for skin health and repair. Boosting your intake of these foods will help the skin to heal, while increasing collagen fiber production.
