Deep Conditioning for Hair: Home Remedies

There is no need to spend lots of money at a salon. Deep conditioning for your hair is as close as your kitchen. Many ingredients in your kitchen provide healthy conditioning without chemical additives and preservatives. As an added benefit, you can save money by using these home remedies.

Avocados

According to the California Avocado Growers Association, avocados have 20 nutrients, including potassium, Vitamin E, B-vitamins and folic acid. Avocados also make a great conditioner for your hair.

The simplest recipe is to mash an avocado until it becomes creamy. Other recipes call for combining a small jar of mayonnaise and ½ an avocado. Another one calls for mixing an avocado with 2 egg yolks. Yet another calls for ½ cup of avocado, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 banana and 1 egg yolk.

With all of these recipes, you apply the avocado mixture to your hair, cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. For deeper conditioning, you can wrap a warm towel around the shower cap. Rinse and wash your hair after 20 minutes.

Olive Oil

You can use plain olive oil or you can add fresh rosemary to the oil. Rosemary can steep in the oil or you can add a fresh sprig of it to the small bottle of oil that you use. Other aromatherapy oils include sage, bay or jojoba. If the oil has been in the refrigerator, you may want to warm it before you start.

Part your hair and dip you fingers into the oil working it slowly into your scalp. Continue parting your hair until the oil is completely through your hair. Then wrap your hair in a towel for about 30 minutes. Unwrap your hair and wash it. If your hair seems oily after it dries, use a little less next time, or try a shampoo for oily hair.

Honey

If your hair is damaged, mix a ½ cup of honey and 3 tablespoons of any kind of vegetable oil. Work a small amount in at a time until all your hair is covered. Cover your hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap for about 30 minutes. Shampoo well and rinse.
