Natural Beauty Tips for Hair

Dozens of chemical-based hair products and treatments line the shelves of stores. If you want a more natural hair care routine, you can use several natural products to cleanse, condition and protect your hair, enhancing your hair’s health and leaving your locks looking shiny and glamorous.

Lemon Juice Rinse

The acid and antioxidants of lemon juice can act as a clarifying rinse, cutting through any product residue left on your hair shafts and restoring your hair’s natural shine. The University of Illinois suggests mixing 1-1/2 tbsps. of fresh lemon juice with 1 cup of water and rinsing it through your hair after regular shampooing.

Hair Smoothies

Delicious fruit-based smoothies aren’t just tasty; they can also enrich your hair when smoothed on topically. North Carolina State University recommends blending a banana, a raw egg and a couple tablespoons of honey and yogurt. Massage the smoothie into your hair, and let it sit for 30 minutes or longer. Rinse it clean with cool water for softer, more luxurious locks.

Dry Shampoo

You should only shampoo your hair when it’s actually dirty. Excessive shampooing can leave your hair dry and brittle. If your hair is clean but becoming oily, use a dry shampoo. Environmental care network Care2 suggests brushing a handful of baking soda through your hair. The powder will pick up your hair oils without drying your hair. Blow dry your hair afterward to get rid of the baking soda.

Olive Oil Conditioner

Olive oil’s vitamins, antioxidants and conditioning nature can leave your hair soft and shimmering. It can also help protect your hair from the damaging effects of the environment, like the wind or the sun’s ultraviolet rays, according to University of California-Davis. Pour a couple tablespoons of virgin olive oil into the palms of your hands. Rub your hands together, and rub them through your hair. Leave the oil in your hair for five minutes, then rinse clean with warm water.

Tea Tree Oil Treatment

Bacteria and oil can plug your scalp’s hair follicles and lead to dandruff, skin irritation and other problems. Tea tree oil’s natural antiseptic properties will help purify your scalp, kill bacteria and get rid of dead skin cells and oil, according to the International Aromatherapy and Herb Association. Add 10 drops of tea tree oil to your regular shampoo and massage it onto your scalp.
