Ingredients in Origins Skin Care Products

Orgins was founded in the 1980s by beauty professionals who were exploring the importance of the green movement and the role cosmetics would need to play in the 21st century. Today, their products are formulated using potent plants, herbs, organic ingredients and natural essential oils that offer moisturizing and healing properties for the hair and skin. Several ingredients in particular are featured in some of their more popular products.

White Tea

White tea is featured in the Orgins skincare collection called A Perfect World, which includes A Perfect World antioxidant moisturizer, moisturizing lotion, white tea skin guardian, intensely hydrating body cream, firming moisture treatment, highly hydrating body lotion, antioxidant cleanser, creamy body cleanser and age-defense moisturizer. White tea contains antioxidants that protect the skin from damage by free radicals, has profound power against cancer-causing cells, helps lower high blood pressure, protects the heart and the entire circulatory system and is a natural killer of bacteria. In addition to its natural healing properties, white tea is toxin free; it received a perfect 0 out of 10 hazard rating score from the Environmental Working Group (EWG), which reviews the research on the toxins found in personal care products.

Ginger

Another botanical ingredient used in a series of Orgins products is ginger; it is the featured in the Incredible Spreadable Scrub ginger body smoother, Ginger Souffle whipped body cream and Ginger Burst savory body wash. Ginger, also known as Zingiber officinale, is commonly used in sweets and alcoholic drinks in Western culture and in cooking, coffee and tea in Asian cultures. Ginger is arguably one of the oldest remedies known to the herbal and aromatic traditions, especially in China, India, and the Middle East. It has become well known for its various health benefits, including its ability to boost bone health, aid digestion and relieve pains related to menstrual disorders, nausea and flu. Ginger also received a perfect 0 out of 10 hazard rating score from the EWG, so the natural composition of ginger is toxin free.

Mint

Orgins Clear Head mint shampoo and Clear Head mint conditioning rinse feature the aromatic scent of mint essential oil. Mint, commonly used as a mouth and breath freshener, is an herb with more than two dozens of species and hundreds of its varieties. Its strong and refreshing aroma of mint can act as a remedy for nausea, promote digestion, be effective in clearing congestion of the nose, throat, bronchi and lungs, and provide relief from respiratory disorders resulting from asthma and the cold. Mint oil is also a good antiseptic, anti-pruritic and skin cleanser. It can soothe skin, cures infections and itching. Mint essential oil received a 2 out of 10 hazard score from the EWG—a low hazard rating, since it can penetrate the skin.
