Facial Cleansing Tools

Facial cleansing tools are one of the many important items used in facial treatments and skin care. If the skin is not properly and regularly cleansed, acne can develop causing blackheads, clogged pores, pimples and furuncles (boils) that can leave scars. Blackheads and pimples can appear from improper or inconsistent cleansing of the skin even if acne is not the cause. Facial cleansing tools are necessary to keep skin free of blemishes.

Cotton Pads

Cotton pads are used to wipe cleanser from the skin. They are soft and gentle on the skin, and they can be made from cotton on a roll, or they can be purchased already made. If you shop for cotton pads in a drugstore or beauty supply store, you will find cotton pads that are shaped square or round.

Face Towels

Face towels are sometimes used to steam the face. Steaming opens up the pores so that the impurities inside can be easily removed. Warm wet towels placed on the face also assist in the release of toxins, and this method of steaming helps make old skin cells on the skin easier to remove.

Facial Steamer

Like a face towel, the facial steamer is used to open pores and cleanse the skin. The facial steamer stands about three feet tall. It has a long arm that extends out and releases steam made from hot water contained in a glass jar.

Fingers

The index fingers are the most convenient and readily available tools used in facial cleansing. These fingers are used to force out blackheads and pus from inside pimples. Gentle pressure applied to the skin with the index fingers expels impurities in the cleansing process.

Cotton Strips

Cotton strips are used to cleanse the face when they are wrapped around the fingers before extracting blackheads or pimples.

Clay Masks

Clay masks are put on the skin to draw out skin impurities. Kaolin clay is often used in facial masks to help cleanse the skin. Most clay masks are applied to skin that is first cleansed with a facial cleanser. A clay mask is usually left on for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, and then removed. Clay masks can be purchased at drugstores and beauty supply stores.

Exfoliation Masks

Exfoliation masks are made to remove dead surface skin cells. Dead skin cells that remain on the skin need to be removed if the skin is to be thoroughly cleansed. Some exfoliation masks contain natural fruit acids while others may contain ground apricot seeds, or oatmeal.
