Many elements must come together to create a good golf swing, physically and mentally. Golfers can choose from a variety of tools to help develop a consistent and effective swing, the key to low scores. The tools start from the ground up, from shoes to computer software.
Golf Gloves
Golf gloves allow the golfer to have a good grip on the club without slippage. When golfing without gloves, hands can get sweaty and slip during your swing, leading to erratic shots. Gloves also prevent blistering of the hands, which makes swinging painful.
Golf Shoes
Specialized golf shoes improve the lower body control of your swing. The soft spikes on golf shoes grip the ground to allow the maximum amount of torque in the lower body. If you are not wearing golf shoes, you may slip on the grass, losing control on the back swing and over-rotating on your follow-through.
Grips
Having the proper type of golf grip is important for your golf swing. Having incorrectly sized golf grips can lead to either too much or too little pressure applied from your hands to the club. Feel is so important to your golf game that you must become comfortable with a particular material or style of grip, be it leather, rubber or something else. Special training grips are available that train your hands to be positioned correctly.
Nets
Nets can be set up at home in the backyard and allow you to get a lot of practice swings without leaving your home. Large practice nets allow you to take full swings with real golf balls without damaging property or chasing far away balls. Chipping nets can be placed at a close distance, and you can work on chipping into a target at various distances.
Driving Range
Driving ranges give you a chance to study the results of your golf swing. You can rent buckets of balls and hit them into an open range that has distance markers to gauge the distance of your targets. A driving range is a good place to work on adjustments to your swing and see the results of any tweaks. The driving range helps you approximate how far you hit the ball with each club, which is important when playing a round on a real golf course.
Golf Swing Analysis
There is software available that can analyze your swing. After inputting a video of your swing into the software, a golf swing analysis program shows, in great detail, how you swing a golf club and advises you on corrections for a better, more consistent swing.
